 Cheap flights to NZ

PostPosted: Wed Sep 2, 2009 9:10 pm Reply to Message Reply with quote

I am struggling to find any cheap sites/airlines with flights back to Christchurch or Auckland. I am looking to fly back before 12th Jan when my visa runs out. I did find flights with STA for £540 one-way which are now gone and I can't find anything else below £700, bit gutted I didn't book.

Just wondering if anyone has any good tips for times to book flights for NZ and or good sites/airlines to keep an eye on?

Auckland or Christchurch, I have looked at the option of trying to fly into OZ/Se Asia getting flights to NZ but nothing cheap right now all 700+ 1 way.

I've got a chance to go to NZ next May and had a search of flight prices the other day and for a return from Edinburgh to Auckland came out at £750, so you should be able to get something a lot cheaper!

You could always use air asia to go to australia then I think jetstar or someone have flights from there to nz, but means getting an oz visa of course. But could be worth a look and splitting up the journey in various ways.

I am looking at doing the Air Asia route, it's working out 4-500 so not so bad. Edinburgh or Glasgow to those places is very expensive right now, but bare in mind I want to fly around Jan 7th so will affect cost alot.

just to let you know, i got a return flight from manchester to auckland this year for 577. with qantas, which compares with the price of doing airasia flights to kl and then using more cheap airlines.
be aware that sometimes the offers are real good and work out better than using airasia.

i have also used air asia when i went home for a month in the summer. it is very basic. you dont get any drinks including water, everything you pay for extra. but it is a quick direct flight and other than the reading lights not working so when they turned off the cabin lights i had to stop reading didnt have any other problems. but just make sure u see if the better airlines have offers.
at the moment, qantas are doing cheap flights to oz, didnt look at nz price, but perth was 559 from london return. and you obviously get lots of film choices and food and lots of alcohol included.

hope this helps,
if have any questions feel free i may be able to help, i've booked a lot of flights over the last 2 years travelling.

Failed to find anything cheaper than 650 into christchurch and around 550 into Auckland one-way arriving early Jan. What do you think guys and girls, keep looking or take the plunge incase they go up even more?

I had a quick look, cos I'm bored and don't have a life. Cheapest I could find is 624 for Auckland.
You could do London - KL, which is £300 with Air Asia, Then KL to Australia (either Gold Coast or Melb, which ever it is cheaper to fly to NZ from) which is about £200, the Aus to NZ if you can get a cheapy.
You'd have to leave a bit of a gap between flights though to cover delays so you may end up spending more between flights than the 550 ish you found!

Yeah the Air-Asia route could end up being too much hassle when I can get a flight to Auckland 550 through STA with Emirates! Thanks for looking though

I've found a one-way to Christchurch from Glasgow for 545 with Emirates through STA. Do you actually need an IYTC card to get the discount? As it says for proof at airport, yet my passport would confirm DOB . This is the cheapest I can find for this time of year so looks like I'll book tonight .

Just spoke to STA who confirmed you do need the discount card or airline may refuse boarding!
