Looking for rugby clubs in NZ

I'm struggling to find information on clubs I could possibly join when I move over in Jan. There isn't much info around the web about the smaller clubs in the towns/cities. So just wondered if anyone who is from NZ or living their has some knowledge?

I want to do a season over in NZ, currently playing just now, ideally would like to play in the South Island but happy to play in North, as I intend to move down to Wanaka for the winter.

Also not sure on insurance, is it going to cost me a fortune to be covered or will the NZ health system cover injuries caused by rugby?

I may well just wait til I arrive and find somewhere I like and settle their but preferably I can find a club before going who can help with job and accomodation!

Hi mate,

Sorry can't help you with any of the rugby stuff but insurance-wise I'm pretty sure you'd be covered by their free healthcare system -

You do realise we play in winter too? Which would mean you would need to find a club in Wanaka... I don't know about any down there, and if there is there would probably be a fare bit of travel involved for games...

If worst comes to worse try Inside Running, I don't know if they do placements within NZ but I know they place other players overseas... Where are you from, what level do you play for now and what position do you play? Or else you could email the NZRU asking them about possible clubs?

I don't know about the insurance though... depends where you're from and how long you intend on staying for... By the way... Jobs are hard to find in Wanaka, especially for the winter... The majority of the bar jobs will got to the 'hot' people and they can all afford to be overly picky with experience required and stuff because there is just so much interest in the work.

I knew you played through winter professionally but I was under the impression it ended around winter for the smaller clubs, what some friends said to me. I lived in Wanaka for 2months previously so might just go back their and play for the rams (only club I know of and it is in Wanaka) . I'll do whatever job, I may have some contacts from friends who were living there and people I met before. But reason I asked was I would like to go somewhere else and have no idea about any other clubs... not found any information about them.

I am from Scotland and play in the forwards, was more so a prop previously but got fitter/smaller, I have been doing prop/hooker recently but could do other forward positions probably. Level wise my club currently are in Scottish Prem 3. I plan to stay for a year or longer perhaps.
