 New Year in South Island

I´m going to be in the South Island for New Year and ideally I would have loved to spend Christmas and New Year In Queenstown but all the hostels are booked up, so really disappointed. Where on the south island would be a good party atmosphere?

Every single hostel in Qtown's booked already?! I'd be suprised, there are loads of them. Keep looking and you should find a bed somewhere

But if they really are booked out then I'd recommend Nelson - although you might find it's fully booked there too as it's one of the top places to go for Xmas and NYE. If not, Christchurch is nice too and it's got plenty of bars to party in

yea nelson would be good but also real hard to get a spot. if i were you i'd hea to lake hawea, i know it sounds like a random small town but it goes off at new years for some reason, awesome concerts and stuff happen. had heaps of friends that were there this year and sounded like real good times http://www.lakehawea.co.nz/new_years.html i guess that website gives you a bit of an idea, i dunno if you know any of those bands listed but shapeshifter are real big over here, they are quality. and im sure other sweet stuff will be going down, do some research on the net.

oh also if you were keen to venture to the north island then rhythm and vines will be where its at, thats at Gisborne in hawke's bay from 29-31 december - http://www.rhythmandvines.co.nz/2009/.

but any holiday type town will be good as tallgirl said, like q-town or wanaka or nelson.
