 Good hostel in Johannesburg...?

Due to oneworld's stupid routing I'm having to have an unplanned stopover in Johannesburg so have been trying to find a good hostel to stay in but keep getting mixed reviews. There also seems to be a lot of newish places and wanted some up to date opinions.

Will have one whole day in jo'berg and want to do a tour including the apartheid museum so would be handy to find a hostel that i can arrange this through but without paying ridiculous comission. Will also be making a return trip to the airport so free/cheap pickup would be handy.

Any suggestions of hostels/areas to stay or even day tour companies....?

Thanks

In 2005 I stayed at a place near the airport run by a lovely English couple. I think it was called Purple Palms Backpackers. It's in a quiet suburb near the airport, and while small does a good job with internet access and can arrange tours. I took a wander down to the local shopping mall which offers good food selection etc. I was a little worried about all the razor wire and bars for security but this seems to be normal even in the friendliest of neighbourhoods (whites are just shit scared of black people in SA). They offer free airport pickup and drop off too.
