Hi, I'm debating between two very similar volunteer programs in which I help underprivileged children with surfing in Muizennperg South Africa. The programs are Gary's Surf School and Twin Work Surf School. Does anyone know anything about these two and can help me decide on them? Thanks!!

Hi. I have not long since come back from Volunteering with the Surf Outreach programme through Twin. It was a great project, very worthwhile. Typically, you are expected to work at the surf school from 3 till 5pm weekdays. It takes about 15mins to walk there from the very homely, clean backpackers lodge where you will no doubt meet some interesting characters as I did! Everyone I met at the lodge was lovely. The kids at surf school where great too - demanding and challenging, yet good fun to work with! There is also an option to do shifts at the backpackers/lodge - this basically means sitting back in the hammock waiting for the phone to ring! This surf school however clearly is run on a shoestring - it relies on donations and handouts. There are trained surf instructors to hand everyday but they rely on volunteers greatly due to their lake of funds. I had an absolute scream from start to finish thanks to the people I worked with, the travellers at the lodge and the kids. Highly recommended :-)
