Hi my girlfriend and i are going to thailand at the end of our 5 months travelling for 20 days and have pretty much decided that when we fly into bangkok we will work our way down to the beaches and treat it just as a chilling out end of our travels. However we were wondering what jabs we need since we arent going up north or anywhere remote? do we need rabies jabs and jab enc? we are going to get hep a and b done and thyphoid? But do we need any others?

cheers

Hi - there's none that you have to have as Thailand is a low risk area, it's just optional (that's unless your coming straight from an area with risk of yellow fever transmission - I think mostly African countries)

I did go and have a couple of jabs the other day - Tetanus which is good to top-up if it's been 10 years since you last had it. It's contracted through cuts and scratches and can result in serious infection of the nervous system.
That was all I was going for but the nurse suggested Hep A. which is recommended if you will be in low hygiene areas - causes liver inflammation and jaundice.
Oo yea Diphtheria may also be one you may want to have

So in a nutshell it's completely up to you - but if it's free there's no harm in getting it - go to the nurse and not the travel clinic though

I had DTP in one injection which is Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio, then hep A+B combined, which was one injection in two doses, all mine were free as well from the nurse so may as well get them. She said I didn't need Malaria tablets either (I'm flying into Bangkok and going south too) Also she said I didn't need to bother with rabies unless I'm going somewhere remote (apparently it only gives you an extra 24 hours before you need medical treatment anyway)
