 Working in Singapore...

PostPosted: Wed Feb 25, 2009 9:08 pm Reply to Message Reply with quote

I was wondering if anyone knows if it's easy to get a job (just something for a couple of weeks over the summer) when you get to singapore? Or even anywhere that I could look before I go?

I've tried a couple of searches but I'm drawing a bit of a blank, so any help would be great!

thanking you

What kind of work are you after?

It's quite tough getting casual work in Singapore without a valid work visa, simply because it's a bit ot a nanny state and employers tend to play by the rules. Some are even keen on ratting on you just for asking.

I'm happy to do anything really, I just wanted to get an idea of what might be available.

Is it difficult to get a working visa? I wouldn't be working for longer than 2 months if that makes a difference?

You'll probably be best off just getting a WHV.

There used to be ways of getting a short term work pass as an individual, but it was quite complicated (believe me). But these days I'm 99% sure they have a 6 month WHV scheme. They were on about introducing it when I was living there, and I'm pretty sure it was imminent.

UPDATE:

Full details here: http://www.mom.gov.sg/publish/momportal/en/communities/work_pass/other_passes/work_holiday_programme/FAQs.html

- Valid for 6 months
- Must be a student or a graduate
- Costs about £20 I think, but don't quote me on that
