Hi I am thinking going to Bali at the beginning of Oct for two weeks. Which area should I stay in? Any suggestions of hostels or hotels would be good too.

Going solo so if anyone wants to join me let me know

Thanks

Caroline

It depends on what sort of thing you are looking for. Kuta/Legion are total party areas and have pretty cheap accomodation. Seminyak further north is a bit more up market.

If you are into surfing you are also pretty sorted as there as some well good places to go.

Ubud which is about an hour north of Kuta is a complete contrast, properly scenic and no one hassles you. Then you can hire a bike or car and explore the island.
I totally reccomend Gili Trawangan which is a well cool place.

Definately spend a few days in Ubud, its amazing - there's a monkey forrest and its quite a spiritual area. There are lots of craft shops and quiet cafes - i cant remember where we stayed but there are loads of hotels dotted around that are cheap and comfy.
If you want to party in Kuta stay a little further away from the centre and closer to the beach. Its a bit like an 18-30s resort for Australians but still a fun place to vist and the locals are amazing. My favourite bar was a place called Little Wing, i think it was run by a Danish girl but not 100%, if its still there check it out, live music, cool people and lots of cocktails! Also try the reggae club - again lots of locals go there but its really fun and you'll meet some fab people! Im so jealous wish i could come along too but just dont think i could save up in time! How much is a flight out there?

Be careful in the monkey forest, if you have any food in your bag they will ravage you for it. They even seem to like peoples water bottles! One of the monkeys bit a little girl when we were there, cos her dad was teasing with the food.

Ubud is lovely

Kuta, Legian and Seminyak are all worth hitting. Cant wait to go back to Bali next year and explore more!!
