Is Langkawi a place for solo travellers?

Hi,

I'm in KL for the next couple of days and have a week until I have to be in Singapore for the Grand Prix so am trying to work out where to go inbetween.

Flights to Langkawi are really cheap and the diving looks good but it looks like quite a couples/family resort...is this right or will I meet other travellers at this time of year?

Otherwise, can anyone recommend somewhere else to go (would really like some beach time and if possible diving), or will anyone be around to meet??

Jo x

You could still get out to the Perhentians. After mid-October they're pretty much off limits 'til Feb because of the monsoon season out east, but until then you'll be fine.

Fly to Kota Bharu or Kuala Terrangganu and then take a taxi to Kuala Besut. From there, you just hop on the speedboat. It's very easy and the flights will probably still be under £20 each way from KL.

Langkawi's a nice place, but it's not as good as the east coast. You get a few backpackers there, but not too many. And it's a fair bit more expensive than the east islands and most of the Thai islands.
