4 Weeks in SE Asia - help asap

I have 4 weeks free and so I thought I would travel through SE Asia. I know, however, its not enough time to see everything. So can anyone help me with a rough guide on where and what to visit. I would love to visit Laos and Cambodia in particular, obviously Thailand, Vietnam and Bali too but in 4 weeks Im thinking only 2 countries so I dont cram too much in?

Any help would be much appreciated. Im travelling on my own and for the first time so a bit clueless at the moment.

Thank you in advance!

Four weeks isn't very long but definately enough time to have some amazing experiences. Flying into SE Asia you are likely to arrive either in Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur. They do super cheap Air Asia flights from London to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and from there you could either travel overland into Thailand or get a cheap flight to Thailand or Cambodia. It's easy to travel over land between Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos but Bali is a little further away so maybe you should keep that for next time.

Thailand and Vietnam are more touristy and I personally prefer Cambodia but am a bit biased having lived there for a year. Most travellers however spend the majority of their time in Thailand and only visit Laos to go tubing in Vang Vieng and Cambodia for a few days to see Angkor Wat. I think this is a real shame as both are wonderful countries.

For Cambodia and Laos I make the following recommendations. Getting a cheap flight to Siem Reap avoids the hellish bus ride from bangkok. You can visit Angkor Wat before heading down to Phnom Penh, then further South to the beach party town of Sihanoukville, chill out in Kampot and Kep, then back north via Phnom Penh to see the dolphins in Kratie before crossing the border into the south of Laos for Don Det then head north via Pakse to Vientienne, Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang (excuse spelling mistakes, it's been a while since I had to write them down). If you have time, a detour via the less visitied north east of Laos is well worth the time and effort for stunning country side scenery and the caves at Vieng Xai. Finish off with a flight out of Vientienne and that's probably four weeks filled.

I've also just posted some info about volunteering in Phnom Penh if you fancy something different.

Hope this helps you out!
