Visa on arrival - anyone tried and tested?!

Hi all!

I am off to Vietnam for a couple of weeks beginning of Dec - near the end of a RTW trip so I am trying to arrange everything before to save the hassle when travelling.

Have seen the visa on arrival option and thought it sounded perfect. I am flying in and out of Vietnam and dates are pretty finalised as meeting mates out there.

Anyone got any advice/tried and tested this option? Be good to hear from you!

Cheers!!

IIRC Vietnamese "visa on arrival" isn't really a visa on arrival - it needs to be pre-arranged, you can't just turn up and get one.

Probably best getting a visa in advance, unless someone better informed wants to say otherwise...

I thought the same, ran out of time to make it to vietnam anyway, but as far as i found out visa on arrival is not an option. You can get it arranged in thailand/cambodia/laos etc and through travel agents in SE Asia when you are thee, but you need the visa before you arrive.

You can arrange a visa on arrival, but you have to arrive at a specified point of entry. It's a bit of a ballache.

You can board a flight to Vietnam without the visa, as long as you have the documentation showing that you're collecting it on arrival.

or instead of a a travel agents, you could go to the embassy yourself for cheaper rates. However, Sihanoukville in cambodia is a good value place for visas.

Thanks for all the advice guys! Unfortunately I won't be able to get a visa in Asia before hand as Vietnam will be my first place after Oz.

I was planning on applying for the 'approval letter' on-line beforehand and then getting the visa on arrival - is this correct?

I only have a week and a half before I go and can't get to London to get a visa beforehand. Does anyone know the best website to apply for the 'approval letter'?

Thanks again!
