Hi,

Am currently in Dalat in the Central Highlands of Vietnam and the plan was to head to Hoi An on the coast (right by where Typhoon Ketsana has hit!) Is anyone there now or can anyone advise of how bad things are, whether its safe to go etc??? Were thinking it may be best to avoid the area but any advice on how dangerous it is/what the aftermath is like would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Claire

Hi Claire and Dave,

We are currently in Vietnam and got stuck in the typhoon in Da Nang which was pretty scary! A nice bus driver managed to find us a hotel although we had no electricity, water or food (and we were lucky!). I'd say definately avoid for the moment (you definately couldn't have travelled there yesterday anyway).

Hoi An was one of the worst hit places and the day after Ketsana hit people were getting boats out of their hotels where the water had risen so much (water up to the 2nd floor apparently).

Luckily we managed to fly out yesterday to Ho Chi Min City (people were also flying to Hanoi which was unaffected too).

We were planning to go to Cambodia but we're hearing that floods have affected there due to this typhoon. Does anyone have any advise on going?

Hope this helps,
Take care!

Sarah & Dan,

Thanks so much for the info, it sounds really bad so we are going to avoid Hoi An and surrounding area. We are going to travel to Nha Trang which was not affected tomorrow then flying to Hanoi the next day.

Glad you managed to get out safe. We only found out today that 3 people were killed in Dalat where we are by falling trees so we will be happy to get up to Hanoi!

Thanks again for the info, its really useful to hear from people who were actually there!

xx
