 Punta Arenas to Santiago

Hi,
I'm gonna be in Chile in October 2006, travelling overland from Punta Arenas up to Santiago with my wife. We have about 3 weeks to make the trip.

Does anyone have any tips/advice on places worth spending a few days on the way up?

We will be two months into our year off by then so should be fairly experienced travellers or at least not looking too ripe for being scammed by the locals

cheers,
Johnny

When you are in Punta Arenas you can go over to torres del paine which is apparently very spectacular, although you need to be a trekker to get the most out of it.

Get the navimag ferry to Puerto Montt. Sails through fjords and very scenic. Sadly I missed out on this as the timings didn't match my flights

Puerto Montt is worth a quick visit, maybe on the way to chiloe (think thats how you spell it) which is an island nearby.

There are also lots of volcanoes and hot springs in this area worth looking at.

Then you can just meander up to Santiago by bus, if you get there with time to spare check out vine del mar and valparaiso too, they are only a short trip from Santiago by bus.
